Participants’ Mentors


 Voon Zhen Yi

Mr. Voon Zhen Yi is Research Analyst at ASLI’s Centre for Public Policy Studies (CPPS). He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management as well as a Bachelors of Business and Commerce degree (Economics and Management major) from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

Prior to joining CPPS, Voon spent five years working in a Malaysian youth NGO, focusing in the area of training and development.  He is currently the director of youth and programmes at the YMCA Kuala Lumpur, an NGO which activities are centred on social advocacy, community outreach, and the provision of life-long education.

Voon is also the captain of the 3rd Kuala Lumpur Company Boys’ Brigade, where he volunteers every weekend in areas of leadership training and skills development with young members from primary school, secondary school and college. Voon frequently writes about politics and governance. He also has an interest in education, defence & security, and human rights policies.


Andrea Lau


 Ivan Lim

Ivan Lim is currently pursuing Bachelor of Chemical Engineering at Monash University Malaysia and he has never allowed his degree to constrain him to explore his capabilities by having internships at CIMB Bank, Sime Darby Group and Ernst & Young (EY).

He currently serves as the National Executive Director for the Malaysia Chapter of International Council of Malaysian Scholars & Associates (ICMS).  He has always ensured that the team dynamics are at top notch and believe that team dynamics are vital to ensure everyone has a chance to lead by example and taking a step back to follow others. As he is an enthusiastic person in ensuring the welfare of the community are never neglected, he has served as the President of Monash University Student Association (MUSA) back in 2014.

With regards to his extra-curricular milestones, he has represented Malaysia in the CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge in Jakarta
back in 2013 and recently, he and his teammates have emerged as one of the finalist in the ICAEW Regional Business Challenge 2016.  On a more personal note, he keeps himself updated consistently with the current economic and political affairs on both local and international level.

As the runner-up of MPPC 2015, he has proven the fact that regardless of your degree background, t
he elements that required to draw up a successful policy are teamwork, passion and eagerness to strive for a betterment.
